Edinburgh Christmas: Missoni style

Believe it or not, it is now less than one hundred days until Christmas. Eeep. Whether this elicits excitement or panic, it does means that if you're planning a wee Christmas celebration for work or with friends, it's time to start looking around.  Hotel Missoni have been pretty quick off the mark and launched their Christmas menu in early October - suitably festive with a hint of Italian Missoni chic. We were super excited to be invited to their Christmas party as we're big fans of their elegant afternoon teas and cocktail bar, so we jumped at the chance at being shown the other parts of the hotel, which, styled from top to bottom by Missoni grand dame Rosita, has to be unmatched for effortless, colour-pop style. - the perfect setting for a glam Christmassy outing. Even the ground floor toilets are amazing. Who knew?

Drinks in hand, we viewed their private dining rooms on the Mezzanine level and even had a peek at their rather lush penthouse suite - and at £900 a night, not somewhere we would ever have the opportunity to usually see!

Luckily, their Christmas menus deliver the Missoni experience at a price a little kinder on the old purse strings. The festive lunch menu is £27, dinner is £37 and a Christmas day lunch is a very reasonable £60.  We tried a few mini tasters, including scrumptious ricotta and spinach ravioli with butter sauce and tomatoes, and a seriously poshed-up turkey stuffed with sausage, apple, prunes and chestnut.

Tis also the season to be "merry", so we'd also advise you visit Missoni's glossy cocktail bar and try their fabulous Christmas libations too - a blackberry & mint julep (heavy on the Maker's Mark but a must for whisky lovers), Classic Champagne cocktail (Moet & Chandon and Cognac) and our fave, the Neve - vodka and limoncello with Prosecco and a ball of homemade lemon sorbet - think the fanciest fizzy float you can imagine.
