Edinburgh Cafe Love: FYUL - Food You Utterly Love

A lot of lovely places have opened in Tollcross of late - from cocktails at the Blackbird and craft beers at the Hanging Bat to cakes at the Purple Pig, Indian street food at Tuk Tuk and the imminent arrival of Japanese resto-deli Harajuku Kitchen at the beginning of November.  Another nearby cafe ,  FYUL (Food You Utterly Love), has opened recently, taking up home in a former video games shop on Bread Street - and we are already big fans.  The decor is vintage hipster chic, with a typewriter-topped old television cabinet sitting next to a pile of battered 60s suitcases, sofas reupholstered with tweed jackets , old-skool school gym flooring and a rather marvellous feature wall created out of a mish mash of old doors.

But that would be nothing without the smiley service, wide array of teas (with loose leaf samples to sniff at the counter), sweet things and range of lunches they have available. Cakes are dressed up with a side of cream and fresh fruit; and a laden plate of smoked trout and potato salad proved a satisfying lunch indeed.  Their water with steeped fresh oranges was a lovely touch as well.

It's also the perfect hang out for the Edinburgh Etiquette team's weekly blog meeting/gossip/perusal of new stuff on ASOS, with free wifi and wide repurposed tables giving plenty of laptop space. It's also super spacious, so you don't feel uncomfortable hanging out for a few hours catching up on some work (or blogging).  All in all, a rather fantastic new addition to Tollcross and to Edinburgh's cafe scene. Go now!
