Thanks for the chocs but I want something pretty: 16 essential Valentine's day Gifts

So it’s February and that means Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Whether you love it or hate it, you can’t deny one thing about it – it’s the best time of year for buying kitschy heart shaped stuff, celebrating anything pink and/or red and secretly hoping your loved one/secret admirer has ignored your rant on crass consumerism and picked you up a voucher for a spa day regardless.

Here’s our top picks of what we’d love to give or receive!
1. Vintage style lingerie is universally flattering and pretty damn sexy. Miss Dixiebelle in Tollcross has a luscious range if you want something frilly.
2. Rob Ryan is famous for his intricate and romantic papercut designs.  Visit his Etsy store to find a tile or print that makes your heart beat faster.
3. Bruntsfield based jewellery shop Rosie Brown has some gorgeous romantic pieces - this Hearts & Pearls bracelet is just beautiful.
4. Let your honey stand under your umbrella ella ella.
5. Be inspired by Steph Loves Ben's alternative Valentine's pom pom bouquet. You can buy one but as the store's US-based, save your postage pennies and get crafty instead.
6. X Marks The Spot Where We Fell in Love. You can have this Love Map customised by adding a heart to a special place for you and your other half (awww).
7. Wear your heart on your...collar? Try out these less traditional but super-cute clips from Ladybird Likes. Edinburgh love bunnies can pick these up at Black Box on Victoria Street or you can buy them online at Etsy.

8. This squirrel soulmates card from Curiouser and Curiouser is totally adorbs (that's adorable, btw) without being too twee. You can get it online or at the Broughton Street shop if you're Burgh-based.
9. Pink and a pair of Franglais foxes = lovestruck perfection. This Coral and Tusk pillow is a bit of a cheatery choice as a) it's a heartbreaking $108.00 and b) it's off of America so you'll struggle to get it by the 14th. But if you are blessed with cash and patience, it would be a very lovely cushion for snugglin' up with your sweetiepie for many cosy nights to come.
10. If you've got cold paws but a warm heart then these gloves from Etsy seller Yastikizi are a secretly sweet must. Perfectly for blowing kisses at the object of your amour.
11. The way to my heart is most definitely a good cup of tea (although I'm happy to accept fine jewellery as a backup option). I'm mooning over this Moomim cup, available over at Fab.
12. You can never go wrong with a really, really spiffy pair of heels. These lush Vivienne Westwood Melissa ones are available at gorgeous Edinburgh boutique Arkangel & Felon in a lustful Valentine's Day palette of either magenta or red. Purchase to wear for your date night, or just leave the page hintingly open within BF or GF's eyeline.
13. Get your nails looking oh-so-pretty with this stunning new shade, Emprise, from Chanel.
14. This Lancome blush in Love will give you that gorgeous flush of colour and the packaging is too cute to resist.
15. If your budget allows, the Louis Vuitton Coeur heart purse is simply stunning and will remind you of your loved one all year round.
16. Give your loved one the gift of time with this stunning Michael Kors watch, in the perfect colour for Valentine's day, available from Asos.
