Romance in Edinburgh: Things to do for Valentines Day

Don't want to stay in on Valentines Day but hate the idea of sitting in a restaurant with a load of couples with no atmosphere?  Here are some ideas for some fun alternatives to do on V-Day that you can do with your loved one, your friends or by yourself.

14 February / 7:30pm doors / 19a West Register Street, EH2 2AA
It'll be a perfect night to go dancing and at the voodoo Whisky Kiss are holding a Ceilidh which later turns into a club night.  There'll be a dance off between the Scottish Champ B-Boy breakdancers and the Highland Hotties (highland dancers) which will definitely be fun to watch!  So  grab a cocktail and get going with a Gay Gordon.

38 Home Street, EH3 9LZ
A cinema date may sound a little old hat but visiting the Cameo Cinema is always a joy.  Not only does it have a wonderful atmosphere and vintage vibe, there is also a lovely bar which usually has a selection of cake!  They're showing Breakfast at Tiffanys at 9pm on Valentines Day which is perfect for a solo outing or with your bestie.

14 February, 7pm  / 51 Thistle Street, EH2 1DY / £25
Bon Vivant's Companion are having an Anti-Valentines evening for their monthly Thirsty Thursday so if you're not into the whole coupley restaurant meal out deal, it might be right up your street.  Convivium Wine are pairing up an eclectic selection of wines with Chinese inspired bites (to celebrate the year of the snake beginning this weekend).  They promise something spicy, saucy and delicious - sounds intriguing!

16 February / 19a West Register Street, EH2 2AA / £30
If something a little bit different tickles your fancy you may well enjoy going to Tea 'n' Tease, a sweet treat of afternoon tea and burlesque.  With a full afternoon tea served, you'll get to enjoy sultry siren Savannah Duvall singing a selection of classic cabaret chansons and French Fling showgirls who'll be fluttering feathers and flashing some flesh.

Other suggestions? Well, apparently Valentines Day falls on the pandas at Edinburgh Zoo's four day mating period so if you want to see the rare sight of pandas doing it the option is there - perhaps the artificially enforced romance in the air will spur on their notoriously blase attitude towards getting it on.  You could also order some beautiful heart shaped cakes from Love Crumbs and eat them all night.  And if you get really stuck for something to do, Die Hard V has its opening night on Valentines Day (yes, really).
